Batch Cooking Basics - Everything you need to know

Batch Cooking Basics – How smart pre-cooking works with enjoyment!

For many, batch cooking is an absolute game-changer when it comes to combining fresh, creative cooking with a busy everyday life of work, family, and to-dos. The method combines enjoyment with structure – and allows for a balanced diet without having to stand at the stove every day.

In contrast to classic meal prep, where complete meals are often pre-cooked, batch cooking relies on clever preparation: on the so-called Prep Day, fresh ingredients are pre-cooked, cut, or sauces and components are prepared. This creates a flexible base with which varied dishes can be freshly assembled in a few minutes – without haste, without compromising on taste.

While classic pre-cooking often results in mushy textures, sticky pasta, or monotonous dishes, batch cooking focuses on enjoyment. The recipes are creative, balanced, and often seasonal – and ensure that cooking feels like real, fresh cooking again.

Another advantage: By specifically using ingredients that are used multiple times – such as herbs or special spices – not only the shopping effort is reduced, but also food waste. The refrigerator remains organized, supplies are better planned, and spontaneous snacks or ready meals are a thing of the past.

Batch cooking creates structure, saves time, and at the same time brings more enjoyment and freshness into everyday life.

Do you want to get started too?

Here's where Batch Cooking and Meal Prep come in. Both concepts aim to make your life easier and enable you to eat a balanced diet, but they have subtle differences that we want to take a closer look at. Here or in our Batch Cooking E-Book, you'll find everything you need to know about batch cooking and what you need for it.

What is Batch Cooking?

Batch cooking means preparing ingredients or basics in advance by cutting, preparing, and portioning ingredients that can later be combined into various dishes. This allows for flexibility in meal assembly without having to cook from scratch every time, saving time on washing up (only the cutting board or mixer needs to be cleaned once).

The great advantage for us is: cooking with fresh ingredients, sautéing garlic in the pan, smelling the scent of fresh cooking in the kitchen every day, and yet preparing the basics once to save time.

What is Meal Prep?

Compared to batch cooking, with meal prep you prepare meals completely in advance. You cook large quantities of dishes and then portion them into individual containers. These containers are stored in the refrigerator or frozen and can be quickly reheated as needed. The result? Always ready-to-eat, homemade meals without the effort of daily cooking, but also a little less of the cooking feeling, which is essential for us as foodies when cooking.

Batch Cooking vs. Meal Prep – what's the difference?

The main difference between batch cooking and meal prep lies in how meals are prepared. With meal prep, you cook meals completely in advance, while with batch cooking, ingredients are prepared to be assembled into various dishes later.
