Pantry: 5 frequently asked questions

Whether you're looking to reorganize your pantry or simply seeking new tips for your storage jars – we've answered 5 of the most frequently asked questions about storage jars.

1. Round or square jars?

Both our Oleni Mason Jars and the storage jars with bamboo lids are round. Do you lose a lot of space in the cupboard because of this? No! Of course, square jars are maximally space-saving, but round jars are much more comfortable to hold.

Which shape is better suited for your kitchen depends entirely on your individual circumstances. To avoid losing valuable storage space, it's best to consider beforehand which groceries you want to store where. For example, if you store your groceries in a drawer and want to be able to access everything from above, the Oleni jars are very suitable.

The storage jars with bamboo lids are easily stackable, so you can use them perfectly in a shelf or cabinet.

With our new wooden lids (Coming soon) for the Mason Jars, they can also be stacked perfectly, as the rim of the lids is slightly raised so that the jars cannot slip.

2. Mason Jars or storage jars with bamboo lids?

In addition to the shape, there are other differences between the two collections: The storage jars with bamboo lids are, as the name suggests, great for storage and have a particularly clean look. The one-piece wooden lid makes the jar easy to open and very practical to use. Groceries can be quickly filled and are ready to hand.

The labels look great on the jar – you can even attach them to the bamboo lid.

The Mason Jars are storage jars and multifunctional jars at the same time, because thanks to the thread and the two-piece lid, a variety of accessories can be screwed on and used in combination. From a lemon press to a sprouting lid, a soap dispenser or a candle holder: Mason Jars are true all-rounders. You can find more about Mason Jars in this guide.

You can attach beautiful labels for storage jars to the lid of the Oleni Mason Jars.

3. Attaching labels

Whether you attach the labels on top or on the side of the glass also depends on where you store your groceries: In a drawer, a view from above is practical, while in a cupboard or on a shelf, the side is more sensible. Consider where you place the jars so that you can see the labels at a glance.

4. Which groceries fit into the jar?

Foods differ in density and volume. Therefore, 1 liter of sugar does not automatically fit into a 1-liter jar. To give you an overview of which jar size you need for which quantity of your groceries, we have created a helpful guide with the most common groceries.

5. Are the jars airtight?

Whether it's a storage jar or a Mason Jar, a wooden lid or stainless steel: the lid closes airtight and is leak-proof – ensuring groceries are optimally protected and stay fresh longer. However, complete protection against moths cannot be guaranteed.

Tip: Add expiration date

Once the groceries are transferred into the jar, do you quickly forget their best-before date? There's a simple trick for that: just write the best-before date from the packaging on the bottom of the jar. A chalk marker is particularly suitable for this, as you can easily wipe it off with a damp cloth as soon as you refill a newer package. The same method is also great for noting down preparation instructions, such as cooking times. This is especially practical for groceries you might not use very often and therefore don't have memorized.   Do you have any further questions about organizing your pantry?
